When i started my research i did not realise how many hip-hop magazines were available to buy in the shops, although they are mainly only available in America. Out of about five main hip-hop magazines available i focused on one magazine and that is called XXL magazine. The reason i focused on this is because it's one of the most successful hip-hop magazines and also one of the most well-known. Another reason why i will focus on this one is because i want my own music magazine to be similar to this one. This magazine's target audience would be male and around the age range of 16-30. XXL magazine is published in the US by a bug publishing company called Harris Publications, this company also publishes other big hip-hop magzines such as KING magazine and The SOURCE. The research i did into this magazine influenced my ideas as i looked at how the magazine's house style. What this magazine does is it makes it's central image amlost big enough to fill the page to catch the reader's eye. It then doesn't have much room for other pictures and text. This gave me the idea to make my central image larger and other parts of the front cover smaller but bright colours, so it would still stand out.
